Fairfax County Executive Ed Long is expected to unveil Tuesday a list of additional cuts the county could make in its 2014 budget proposal to avoid his proposed 2-cent property tax hike.

Long said he opted to ignore many of the cuts he had asked each agency head to recommend, saying he feared deeper cuts would affect county operations and anger residents.

The county Board of Supervisors, however, asked Long for the list of proposed cuts in hopes of reducing - or even eliminating - the need for a tax increase.

Board members are also scheduled to discuss the Fairfax County Schools budget. Long recommended giving the schools $1.72 billion next year, about $62 million less than the School Board requested.

The meeting is scheduled for 1 p.m. at the Fairfax County Government Center, 12000 Government Center Pkwy.
