A Fairfax man was charged with a misdemeanor after Transportation Security Administration officers found a loaded gun in his carry-on luggage at Ronald Reagan National Airport.
The gun was discovered at the checkpoint Friday as the man's carry-on passed through the X-ray machine.
Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority Police confiscated the 9mm semi-automatic handgun, ammunition and magazine. Elwood Kirkman, 59, was charged with carrying a weapon in an airport terminal, a misdemeanor.
Kirkman was able to continue his trip to Dallas without his weapon, and there was no impact to airport operation, TSA officials said.
