CHESTER, Va. (AP) — Chesterfield County fire officials say a pan left unattended on a stove is the cause of a house fire that killed a man.

Lt. Jason Elmore with the Chesterfield County Department of Fire and Emergency Medical Services says the fire occurred Sunday afternoon in Chester. Fire crews found the victim in a first-floor bedroom. He was taken to VCU Medical Center, where he later was pronounced dead.

Elmore says the body will be taken to the medical examiner's office for identification and to determine the cause of death.

The fire has been ruled accidental.
