WASHINGTON (AP) — A monthlong festival devoted to labor in the arts is set to kick off in Washington.

DC LaborFest begins Thursday with a wreath-laying to mark the 184th anniversary of the birth of labor organizer Mary Harris "Mother" Jones.

The festival includes film, theater, poetry, art and musical performances. Highlights include a talk by Sen. Elizabeth Warren, D-Mass., about her new memoir on Friday at the AFL-CIO headquarters near the White House.

The Metropolitan Washington Council of the AFL-CIO is organizing the festival, which is newly expanded this year. It was previously known solely as the DC Labor FilmFest, which is still part of the event.
