A fired up President Obama delivered a passionate call for gun control today at the University of Hartford in Connecticut today, asking the audience to stand up for stronger gun laws.

“We have to tell Congress it’s time to restore the ban on military-style assault weapons, and a 10-round limit for magazines, to make it harder for a gunman to fire 154 bullets into his victims in less than five minutes,” Obama said. “Let’s put that to a vote.”

Obama only mentioned “assault rifles” once, saving most of his moral outrage for Republicans and the National Rifle Association for opposing legislation on universal background checks.

“Why wouldn’t you want to make it harder for a dangerous person to get his or her hands on a gun?” the President asked. “What’s more important to you: our children, or an A-grade from the gun lobby?”

Obama repeated that it was time for ordinary Americans to remind their Congressional representatives about the horrific mass shootings.

“This is about these families and families all across the country who are saying let’s make it a little harder for our kids to get gunned down.”
