ANNAPOLIS, Md. (AP) — Maryland Gov. Martin O'Malley has ordered that the United States and state flags be flown at half-staff in memory of a Marine killed in Afghanistan.

O'Malley ordered the flags be lowered on Wednesday from sunrise to sunset in memory of Sgt. Julian C. Chase of Edgewater. The 22-year-old Marine was killed May 28 in Helmand province while conducting combat operations.

Chase was assigned to 5th Air Naval Gunfire Liaison Company, III Marine Expeditionary Force, Okinawa, Japan.
