A Florida man who brought guns and ammunition onto the grounds of the U.S. Capitol Building on Sunday afternoon has been arrested, police said.

Ty Carroll Mitchum, 59, was arrested on charges of possession of an unregistered firearm and possession of unregistered ammunition, according to the U.S. Capitol Police.

At about 12:50 p.m. Sunday, officers made contact with Mitchum on the West Front of the Capitol Building. While he was being interviewed, Mitchum told officers that he had firearms in his car, which was parked in the unit block of Constitution Avenue NW.

When officers searched Mitchum's car, they found three firearms and several rounds of ammunition, police said. Mitchum was then arrested without incident.
