COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) — U.S. Sen. Marco Rubio of Florida will campaign in Ohio for Mitt Romney.

The Romney campaign says the Republican will be in Columbus on Monday afternoon for a rally at the Ohio Statehouse's west plaza. Meanwhile, Democratic president Barack Obama will be at a rally Monday afternoon at Columbus' Schiller Park, after an earlier rally in Cincinnati.

Like Ohio Sen. Rob Portman, Rubio was considered a potential running mate for Romney before Wisconsin Rep. Paul Ryan got the nod.

Recent polls indicated Obama had a slight edge in Ohio, considered crucial to Romney's chances of unseating him.
