BALTIMORE (AP) — A former Baltimore police officer who prosecutors say provided protection for a purported drug trafficker has been sentenced to five years in prison.
Twenty-six-year-old Ashley Roane of Pikesville pleaded guilty in November to extortion and aggravated identity theft. She was sentenced Thursday in federal court in Baltimore.
According to her plea, Roane, a five-year veteran of the police department, stood watch in her uniform while a person purportedly got heroin from a vehicle provided by the FBI. That person was actually an informant.
Prosecutors also say she provided information on people who were arrested to conspirators who used it to file fraudulent tax returns.
