LOS ANGELES (Legal Newsline) – A popular snack bar brand is facing a class action lawsuit, alleging the company falsely says its products are healthy.
Mayra and Chris Galvez filed a lawsuit April 24 in U.S. District Court for the Central District of California Western Division against KIND and KIND Foods, alleging its snack bars don’t meet the requirements to be called healthy by the Food and Drug Administration.

KIND makes four different types of snack bars that include both dark chocolate and fruit and nuts. They market the bars as both healthy and tasty as part of its “brAND philosophy.” The company sold 458 million units in 2014 using the “brAND philosophy.”
The lawsuit alleges KIND’s snack bars contain an elevated level of saturated fat and “not enough nutrients to bear the terms ‘plus’ or other health-related terms.” The FDA sent KIND a letter stating the company was in violation of the Federal Food, Drug and Cosmetic Act and was misbranding its food, the suit says
Mayra and Chris Galvez seek class status in the suit and seek damages in excess of $5 million plus court costs.
