DECLO, Idaho (AP) — Students who did not meet their reading goals in a fourth-grade class in southern Idaho had their faces written on in permanent marker by those who did, with the teacher's permission.

Some parents say the effect on their children was humiliating and that some of the youngsters have learning problems.

District Superintendent Gaylen Smyer says students in the class read a set number of books over a certain period.

The Times-News of Twin Falls reports (http://bit.ly/S2oNii) the teacher allowed them to choose their own incentive to meet that goal. The students who fell short either would stay in at recess or have their faces written on.

Six students chose to have their faces marked and three missed recess.

Parent Cindy Hurst says she's not after anyone's job but she wants positive changes made at the school.
