Once again, France takes the lead in world affairs by announcing their support for the Syrian rebels.

According to the New York Times, President François Hollande recognized the Syrian rebel coalition, making France the the first Western nation to do so.

France also led the way supporting the uprising in Libya, under French President Nicolas Sarkozy in the Spring of 2011.

That led Republicans such as Sen. John McCain and Sen. Lindsey Graham to criticize the president for “leading from behind” in the conflict.

The United States has not signaled interest in backing the Syrian rebels, but Secretary of State Hillary Clinton recently announced an additional $30 million in humanitarian aid.
