FROSTBURG, Md. (AP) — Frostburg State University is going off the grid with its newest research building.

The Sustainable Energy Research Facility opening Monday is powered and heated by renewable sources including solar, wind, passive solar and hydrogen fuel cell technology.

The 6,300-square-foot building is designed as a demonstration and test center for energy conservation and renewable energy technology.

It was built with federal grants totaling nearly $1.6 million, with additional support from the university, Constellation Energy and the Maryland Industrial Partnerships.
