Former U.S. Representative Gabrielle Giffords D-Ariz. delivered a powerful statement against gun violence this morning prior to a Senate hearing.

Giffords spoke slowly with coaching from her husband Mark Kelly, but with conviction - clearly still suffering the effects after being shot in the head during a mass shooting in Tuscon, Arizona in January 2011.

"Speaking is difficult, but I need to say something important," she said. "Violence is a big problem, too many people are dying, too many children are dying, too many children."

Giffords added passionately, "We must do something, it will be hard, but the time is now. You must act. Be bold. Be courageous, Americans are counting on you."
