Gabrielle: Bowing down is a 'sign of strength'

We're not sure how Gabrielle Reece was raised, but the pro volleyball player, actress, fashion model and sports announcer is definitely confused.

The 43-year-old wife and mother of two believes that women should be submissive to their husbands, Us Weekly reports.

In her new book, "My Foot Is Too Big for the Glass Slipper," the wife of famed surfer Laird Hamilton writes that "to truly be feminine means being soft, receptive, and -- look out, here it comes -- submissive."

Huh?!?

You would think that a woman as successful as Gabrielle would understand the importance of being independent and strong, but apparently not.

On "The Today Show" last week, Gabrielle defended her bizarre view to host Natalie Morales, explaining, "I think the idea of living with a partner is, 'How can I make their life better?' So if I'm the woman and he's the man, then yes, that's the dynamic. I'm willing and I choose to serve my family and my husband because it creates a dynamic where he is then in fact acting more like a man and masculine and treating me the way I want to be treated."

She continued digging herself a hole: "I think because women have the ability to set the tone that the ultimate strength and showing real power, I believe, is creating that environment. I don't think [being submissive is] a sign of weakness. I think it's a sign of strength."

Again, huh?!?

This really makes us wonder what other lies Gabrielle is peddling in her new book -- which the description says includes "hilarious stories, wise insights, and concrete takeaways on topics ranging from navigating relationship issues to aging gracefully to getting smart about food" -- and whether Laird actually might have brainwashed her during their 17-year marriage.

What the stars are tweeting

Lakers star Kobe Bryant), after tearing his Achilles tendon during a game against the Golden State Warriors. Kobe will not be able to play basketball for six to nine months because of his injury.

The Buzz on 'DWTS'

Last week it was more like "Dancing With the SARS," as "Real Houswife" Lisa Vanderpump contracted a mysterious illness, or at least pretended to. Call us cynics, but Lisa's alleged flu, which almost -- almost, she swears! -- caused her to not dance, is a good excuse for having an "off" week when in fact you're just not a good dancer. With her gone, we once again predict the departure of Victor Ortiz.
