A Gaithersburg man is scheduled to be sentenced Monday in Montgomery County District Court for killing his 12-year-old stepdaughter.

David Hang, 43, was convicted of first-degree murder in August for stabbing Jessica Nguyen with a small sword at their Gaithersburg home.

Prosecutors said Hang was angry at the Nguyen family for delaying a divorce from Jessica's mother, a Vietnamese woman whom Hang had married to help with her immigration issues.

Hang stabbed Jessica more than 40 times in the basement of their home on May 31, 2011.

The Montgomery County State's Attorney's Office plans to ask for a life sentence without the possibility of parole.
