A Nevada high school student was suspended after he called his congressman’s office and told lawmakers to “get off their fucking asses” and pass stricter gun control laws, according to a reports Tuesday.

Rep. Mark Amodei’s, R-Nev., staff member reported 17-year-old Noah Christiansen’s comments to the principal at Robert McQueen High School, which the American Civil Liberties Union said resulted in Christiansen being suspended for two days and banned from joining the student government, the Washington Post reports.

“Welcome to the world where words have impact,” the congressman told the Los Angeles Times.

Christiansen made the call during a nationwide protest last week as thousands of U.S. students walked out of class to call for stronger gun control laws.

“I believe bump stocks should be banned, the minimum age should be raised, and Congress people not already asking should get off their fucking asses and do something about gun control,” Christiansen said to one of Amodei’s staffers Wednesday.

The 11th grader told the Washington Post that prior to the incident his disciplinary record had been close to spotless.

According to the news outlet, Chrstiansen’s punishments were for being “disrespectful and insubordinate.”
