The new seats on the latest generation rail cars will be vinyl-covered steel contoured to support riders' backs. The floor will also be a resilient vinyl-like material speckled with red, white and blue instead of carpeting. The lights are LED, which emits a brighter more energy-efficient light. And the doors will spring open slightly like an elevator if something gets stuck in the doors. Metro says the feature and the more streamlined opening mechanism should mean fewer door problems.
