DETROIT (AP) — Two-dozen Detroit high school students are going to check out Motown — in New York.
The 24 performing arts students from Cass Technical High School and the Detroit School of Arts plan to leave late Thursday en route to Broadway, where they’ll see a performance of “Motown: The Musical.”
The trip is being made possible by the Motown Museum, in partnership with the Gordy Foundation.
The musical opened this past Sunday at the Lunt-Fontanne Theatre.
Motown Museum Board of Trustees Chair Robin Terry calls it “a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to inspire these talented young people, many of which aspire to pursue careers in the arts.”
“Motown: The Musical” tells the story of Motown founder Berry Gordy. He produced and wrote the book for the show.
