Police said the suspect was a white male, in his late 20s with a heavy Australian accent.

Around 1 a.m. on July 7, the man approached the victim in the area of M Street and 31st Street NW, and offered to help the woman help find her friends. The man led to the victim onto the C&O Canal just off 31st Street and pushed the woman into the bushes and sexually assaulted her.

The suspect was slightly overweight, with short dark hair and a scruffy beard.

He wore a polo shirt with white-and-blue horizontal stripes and shorts.
