A 9-year-old girl saved a 4-year-old girl from drowning in a pool, officials said.

The incident occurred June 26 at the Westgate Community Pool in Manassas.

Emergency personnel at the scene were told that the 9-year-old girl saw the younger girl at the bottom of the pool and initially thought she was playing. However, the older girl soon realized that the 4-year-old girl wasn't playing, and she pulled the victim from the bottom of the pool and over to the side, officials said.

The 9-year-old girl notified lifeguards, who started CPR. When Prince William County fire and rescue units got to the scene, the 4-year-old girl was crying.

Fire and rescue units attended to the victim and took her to the medic unit, officials said. She was then taken to a hospital for additional treatment and recovery.
