DETROIT (AP) — The General Motors Foundation plans to award grants to three Detroit charities in honor of the automaker's former chief executive.
GM Foundation President Vivian Pickard (pih-KARD') is scheduled to present the grants to the charities on Monday. They're being given as a tribute to former GM Chairman and CEO Dan Akerson (A'-kuhr-sun) and his wife, Karin.
Pickard is expected to make stops at the Capuchin Soup Kitchen, Coalition on Temporary Shelter and Habitat for Humanity Detroit.
Since its inception in 1976, the GM Foundation has donated hundreds of millions of dollars to charities, educational organizations and disaster relief efforts worldwide.
