The Green Course at Golden Horseshoe Golf Club in Williamsburg will host the Colonial Open, an International Junior Golf Tour event for players age 9-19 (three divisions) on Saturday and Sunday.

Local players in the field include Jason Caputo (Fairfax/Robinson), Bryce Johnson (Oakton/Flint Hill), Luke Schaap (Potomac/Churchill), and Evan Shapiro (Rockville/Walter Johnson).

Local winners in IJGT events last month were Langley senior Derick Paxton (Great Falls), who shot 74-72 – 146 to win in Bloomfield, Conn., and Toks Pedro (Bowie), who shot 76-68 – 144 to rally to victory in the Low Country Open in Okatie, S.C., the first event this year on the IJGT schedule. Pedro, 15, attends the Junior Players Golf Academy in Hilton Head, S.C., a full-time academic/golf instruction program in Hilton Head, S.C.

The IJGT offers two- and three-day tournaments throughout the school year. Former IJGT players include Webb Simpson, Rickie Fowler, Hunter Mahan, and Paula Creamer.
