Gomez, Norden win Des Moines triathlon

DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) — Spain's Javier Gomez and Sweden's Lisa Norden won the 5150 U.S. Championship Elite Cup triathlon on Sunday.

Gomez and Norden each earned just over $150,000, the biggest prizes in international triathlon competition.

Gomez, the silver medalist at the London Olympics, fought through temperatures in the high 80s to beat American Hunter Kemper by 38 seconds. London Games winner Alistair Brownlee was 14th.

Norden, also the Olympic silver medalist, upset favored American Sarah Haskins to win the Des Moines women's event for the second year in a row.
