Businessman Herman Cain will appear Saturday at Liberty University in Lynchburg as the Republican presidential hopeful continues to ride a recent surge in the polls, the News and Advance is reporting.
The private Christian university founded by the Rev. Jerry Falwell,is well known for attracting prominent conservatives. Cain is the third GOP candidate to visit. Texas Gov. Rick Perry spoke to students on Sept. 14 and Rep. Michele Bachmann of Minnesota on Sept. 28.
Unlike Perry and Bachmann, Cain's stop is not for a grand political speech, but rather a book signing. It's the second trip to the campus by the former CEO of Godfather's Pizza, who first visited in 2009. He recently edged out Perry in a Florida straw poll and has surpassed Bachmann, the winner of the Iowa straw poll, in several national polls.
Former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin will be on the Liberty campus as well to address the Extraordinary Women Conference, which is not sponsored by the university or open to the public. Palin has not said whether she will run for the 2012 Republican nomination.
