In response to the White House cancelling its self-guided tours, House Republicans invited D.C. tourists to visit the Capitol instead.

“White House cancels tours over sequestration; House Admin welcomes Americans visiting D.C. to tour Capitol instead,” the Committee on House Administration Republicans tweeted.

Some White House visits were already scheduled, so there could be some tourists with a gap in their schedule. “Due to staffing reductions resulting from sequestration, we regret to inform you that White House Tours will be canceled effective Saturday, March 9, 2013 until further notice,” the White House Visitors Office wrote in an email  to legislative offices.  “Unfortunately, we will not be able to reschedule affected tours.  We very much regret having to take this action, particularly during the popular Spring touring season.”
