Former Michigan Gov. Jennifer Granholm was the talk of the Democratic National Convention last week after delivering a rousing speech, complete with some of the most animated hand gestures in recent convention history. The host of "The War Room" on Current TV tells Yeas & Nays that she did nothing to get herself pumped up for the speech.

"To those who are wondering: no, I didn't drink Red Bull," Granholm wrote by email. "I was high on democracy!"

Granholm said the distinctive arm movements that made her speech an instant Internet sensation were her own. "No one advised me on gestures," she said. "If they had, they might want to consider a new line of work."

Granholm said she has given similar "rev-the-base energetic speeches" before but was not anticipating the enthusiastic reaction to her speech from fellow Democrats. "I've never had as much positive feedback from a single speech," she said. "Of course folks on the other side of the aisle have been a little more -- how shall I say? -- circumspect."
