BYRON TOWNSHIP, Mich. (AP) — A groundbreaking ceremony for a Tanger Outlets Mall in the Grand Rapids area has been set for Aug. 21.
Byron Township Supervisor Audrey Nevins-Weiss tells MLive.com (http://bit.ly/1oqqTME ) that Gov. Rick Snyder is expected to attend the event.
According to Nevins-Weiss, the mall is to open in fall 2015.
Tanger Factory Outlets Mall Inc. received final approval for the project in December from the Byron Township Commission to build an 80-store outlet at the site of the former Dome World in the Kent County community. The enclosed sports and recreation center has been vacant since it shut down a few years ago.
Tanger operates 48 outlet malls across the country, including two in Michigan. The national outlet mall chain selected the property because of its location between Grand Rapids and Kalamazoo.
