Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid has announced that the Senate will adjourn until Monday morning at 11 am, with “fiscal cliff” negotiations continuing through the night.

At that point, he could either begin the legislative process should any deal be struck overnight, or push ahead with a scaled-back plan, hoping to peel off enough Republicans to squeeze it through the Senate and put pressure on the House to go ahead with it.

Either way, action must be taken by midnight Monday to prevent taxes going up on all Americans and to avert automatic spending cuts.
