He’s not a prisoner yet, but former Ward 5 Councilman Harry Thomas Jr. has an inmate number.

Thomas, whom a federal judge sentenced on May 3 to 38 months in prison, will be inmate No. 31866-016, according to the Bureau of Prisons.

Federal officials have yet to announce where Thomas will serve his sentence, but, at the former lawmaker’s request, U.S. District Judge John Bates recommended that he do his time at facilities in Montgomery, Ala., or Pensacola, Fla.

Thomas pleaded guilty in January to stealing more than $350,000 in taxpayer money and to filing a false tax return. He resigned in January, and a special election to fill his seat is scheduled for Tuesday.
