HONOLULU (AP) — Hawaiian Airlines flight attendants have ratified a new contract covering work on new Airbus planes the airline plans to buy.

Hawaiian announced the ratification Wednesday, about one month after pilots finalized their own contract for the A321neo.

The unions needed new contracts because of industry customs require different pay and work conditions for different airplanes.

Hawaiian plans to buy 16 of the jets. Each will seat about 190 passengers in first and economy class.

The airline may use the planes to launch new nonstop routes between U.S. West Coast cities and Kauai, Maui and the Big Island.

The airplane's smaller size and fuel efficiency also will give Hawaiian the option of using it fly to one or two smaller U.S. West Coast cities the airline currently doesn't serve.
