HOUSTON (AP) — More details may be revealed at a federal court hearing in Houston into the 2012 shooting death of an Iranian student and women's rights activist.
Ali Irsan faces state murder charges in the death of Gelareh Bagherzadeh, who was gunned down near her parents' Houston home.
Irsan, a naturalized citizen originally from Jordan, has been in custody since his arrest last week on federal fraud charges. Authorities say he was involved in a welfare and Social Security benefits scam that also included his wife and daughter.
Federal prosecutors say evidence will be presented at Thursday's detention hearing connecting the 57-year-old Irsan to the slaying of the 30-year-old Bagherzadeh.
