Heritage Action President Michael Needham defended in a Fox News interview Wednesday his group's opposition Tuesday to a proposed compromise on the government shutdown and debt limit fight.

Heritage Action released a memo Tuesday afternoon opposing the new House deal structured by House Speaker John Boehner before House Republican leadership canceled the vote.

"I don't think our memo was what tanked the bill yesterday," Needham told Fox News anchor Bill Hemmer. "What tanked the bill is millions of Americans agree with our perspective."

Needham pointed out that Americans were right to be concerned with the economic threats posed by Obamacare and trillions of dollars of national debt.

"I think the American people's voice is not heard as loudly in the Senate as it has in the House and clearly the White House isn't listening to American people about Obamacare," Needham said.
