He was often referred to as the "hero intern" after helping save boss Gabrielle Giffords' life during the 2011 shooting in Tucson, Ariz. That helped give a title to 22-year-old Daniel Hernandez's first book, "They Call Me a Hero: Memoirs from My Youth," which was released Tuesday. Hernandez writes about growing up Latino and gay and getting involved in politics. He now serves as a member of the Tucson Commission on Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual and Transgender Issues and on the Sunnyside Unified School District's Governing Board. Hernandez is coming to town this week to promote the book. He'll be at the Silver Spring Library on Thursday for a signing at 7 p.m.
