That was fast. The new pro-Hillary Clinton group "Ready for Hillary" has already collected 500,000 Facebook friends, in part because of the support it is winning to mount a vigorous defense of the former secretary of State and first lady against charges from anti-Clinton groups.
Just hours before Clinton's White House lunch with President Obama Monday, Ready for Hillary announced its Facebook success in a fundraising email seeking donations of $20.16 — and more — as it readies for Clinton's likely 2016 presidential bid.
Adam Parkhomenko, executive director of the group, used the email to highlight attacks on Clinton and the need to fight back.
"It's three-and-a-half years from Election Day in 2016, and there are already little 'Stop Hillary' groups popping up dedicating themselves to negative attacks against Hillary all day, every day," he said. "Throughout Hillary's career, there have been more 'Stop Hillary' groups than we can count. It's all just noise," he added.
Parkhomenko's full email:
Did you see the attack ad released against Hillary this week? Probably not... because few people did.
It's three-and-a-half years from Election Day in 2016, and there are already little "Stop Hillary" groups popping up dedicating themselves to negative attacks against Hillary all day, every day. Even Karl Rove has weighed in.
Throughout Hillary's career, there have been more "Stop Hillary" groups than we can count. It's all just noise. In fact, the same day that one of these groups launched this web ad, we announced that Ready for Hillary has reached 500,000 Facebook supporters. What a contrast.
We need to keep up the momentum. Will you make a contribution today and help us reach 10,000 donors by the end of the month?
Every time one of these "Stop Hillary" groups emerges, let's strengthen our resolve and continue to build a true, positive, grassroots organization encouraging Hillary to run. By making a contribution today, you're not only showing your enthusiasm for a Hillary Clinton candidacy, you're sending a message that we won't let this noise deter us one bit.
Can you join us by making a contribution before the July 31st deadline and help us continue building our grassroots army of Hillary supporters?
Thanks so much for your help,
