ROANOKE, Va. (AP) — Attorney General Eric Holder is headed to Virginia to promote a U.S. Justice Department program that aims to improve re-entry programs for offenders.

Holder is scheduled to visit the Veterans Treatment Court in Roanoke on Thursday to discuss the initiative, called "Smart on Crime." The Roanoke center offers treatment and a recovery alternative to incarceration.

Holder said the justice program is intended to reduce repeat offenses.

He's also scheduled to meet privately with graduates of the Roanoke program.
