HOLLAND, Mich. (AP) — The fifth annual Downtown Holland Ice Sculpting Competition is set for this weekend, with students from Michigan and Ohio participating.

The Holland Sentinel (http://bit.ly/RqKLy1 ) says that the National Ice Carving Association sponsors the event, which opens Friday.

The competition starts at 6 p.m. Friday, with teams making sculptures that could be displayed at restaurants, wedding receptions or other special events.

The teams will move the sculptures from their workstations to a judging area, where they'll remain for about a week.

On Saturday from 10 to 11 a.m., master carver Greg Butauski will lead an interactive ice sculpting demonstration in GDK Park next to Cold Stone Creamery.

A freestyle carving event is 12:30-4 p.m. Saturday.
