THIBODAUX, La. (AP) — Construction of Thibodaux Regional Medical Center's $62 million Wellness Center is on schedule despite delays caused by summer rains.
Project manager Wilson Alvarez of Jackson, Mississippi-based Johnson Construction said completion is expected in January 2016, The Daily Comet reported (http://bit.ly/1qyrGfx).
Ground was broken in February for the 230,000-square-foot project in Lafourche Parish. Hospital spokeswoman Toni Martinez says pile driving has been completed at the site along Bowie Road.
Alvarez says structural steel for construction work is expected to arrive soon.
The Thibodaux City Council annexed about 22 acres last summer to accommodate the center.
The center will have three pools, including a competition pool open to local swim teams. One of the pools will have a floor that raises, lowers and tilts to offer rehabilitation exercises.
There will also be an imaging center, a neurosciences center and facilities for cardiac rehabilitation as well as physical, occupational and speech therapy.
The expansion is the latest in the hospital's development plan.
In 2010, Thibodaux Regional completed a five-year, $100 million expansion.
