OLYMPIA, Wash. (AP) — The state House has passed a proposal that would allow students under age 21 to taste wine in college classes.

The measure was approved on a 94-3 vote Friday night and now heads to the Senate.

Currently, students who are enrolled in a viticulture or enology degree program can't taste wine as part of their course work.

The measure passed Friday creates a special permit for colleges, universities, community colleges and vocational schools to allow students under 21 enrolled in such programs to taste, but not ingest, wine as part of their studies.

Earlier this week, the Senate passed a similar measure that would permit alcohol tasting for students enrolled in culinary, beer technology or similar programs.
