An investigation into whether the Department of Housing and Urban Development improperly promoted and implemented Obamacare will take place, according to the government accountability group Cause of Action, which requested the investigation in April, the Hill reported.

HUD’s inspector general notified the group of its decision to investigate on Friday.

“If HUD was using its resources to benefit [the Department of Health and Human Services] then they're not using those resources to focus on HUD programs and that would raise concerns under the Anti-Deficiency Act,” Dan Epstein, Cause of Action's executive director, told the Hill.

Epstein also said the group is concerned that other federal agencies were being politicized by the Obama administration in order to promote Obamacare.

“The bigger question is: Are politicos within either the agencies themselves or the White House essentially pressuring agencies to misuse their resources in a way that benefits the political agenda of the president,” Epstein asked.

The group's allegations that HUD improperly used its appropriations came from documents the group received from a Freedom of Information Act request. Cause of Action was provided a slideshow presentation showing HUD senior staff asking employees to sign people up for Obamacare in the course of their regular HUD duties.

In April, the group sent letters to inspectors general for both HUD and HHS asking for an investigation into Obamacare’s implementation. Epstein said the organization had not heard from the HHS inspector general regarding the inquiry.
