Making the case for higher taxes in Roanoke, Virginia, July 13th, President Obama said, “Somebody invested in roads and bridges. If you’ve got a business — you didn’t build that. Somebody else made that happen.” But how much of the federal government’s budget is really spent on the “roads and bridges” business owners use to transport their products? According to the White House Office of Management and Budget, less than 2 percent of all federal spending went to “ground transportation” in 2012 which includes not just spending highways, but subsidies for Amtrak and Obama’s high-speed rail plans as well.
