A Hyattsville man has been charged with attempted murder after, police said, he hired a man dressed as a woman for sex and stabbed the victim when he realized he was biologically male.

Christian Ariel Romero, 20, was charged with attempted first-degree murder, attempted second-degree murder, first-degree assault, second-degree assault, reckless endangerment and theft under $1,000. He told police he'd stabbed his alleged victim on Sept. 2 "after realizing the victim was a man posing as a woman," police said. Police couldn't specify whether the victim, 41, of Silver Spring -- who had agreed to engage in a sex act in exchange for money -- was simply dressed as a woman or was transgender.

Later that day, Romero showed up at the victim's house and spoke to the man's roommates, saying he'd come back to apologize for the stabbing. Police arrested him on-scene.
