ABIDJAN, Ivory Coast (AP) — Ivory Coast President Alassane Ouattara has transferred his higher education minister after violent clashes between students and campus police officers at the country's largest university.

Amadou Gon Coulibaly, the president's general secretary, announced the minor reshuffle Wednesday after Ouattara presided over his first cabinet meeting since undergoing surgery for sciatica in France last month.

He said Ibrahim Cisse Bacongo, the higher education minister, would trade positions with Gnamien Konan, who was formerly minister of public service and administrative reform.

No explicit reason for the move was given but Bacongo came under considerable pressure after students accused campus police officers of physically abusing a student last month at Felix Houphouet-Boigny University, named after the country's first president. The resulting tension led to riots in which around 20 officers were injured.
