In 2008, REI CEO Sally Jewell asked McCain for more federal solar subsidies

In 2008, REI CEO Sally Jewell – now President Obama’s nominee for Interior Secretary – participated in a business roundtable with Sen. John McCain during his presidential run.

During the panel, Jewell explained that she believed that the federal government needed to provide tax incentives for companies to convert to solar power.

“There isn’t anything significant that helps us make the right decisions,” Jewell said, according to the Seattle Times.

McCain reportedly explained that he was wary of green energy subsidies, reminding her of the bad investments the federal government made in the seventies.

REI announced plans to install solar power systems in 11 of the company's stores in December 2008 and now has currently has over 26 locations with solar technology.
