When Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney infamously wrote off much of the electorate at a 2012 fundraising event, he argued that, “47 percent of Americans pay no income tax. So our message of low taxes doesn't connect.” Given that attitude, it isn't surprising that President Obama trounced Romney by 22 points among the 41 percent of voters with household incomes of under $50,000.
