"Congratulations to Canada, they certainly know their way around a hockey rink," Carney said, remarking that the game appeared to be "stressful" for American hockey fans.
President Obama had bet a case of his very own White House beer on the game with Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper.
"If Harper says you can keep the beer for Keystone [XL], would the president have any thoughts?" asked one reporter jokingly, referring to the controversial Keystone XL pipeline.
"That process is housed over at the State Department," Carney said with a grin. "It's entirely unfermented."
