White House Press Secretary Jay Carney, a Redskins fan, explained today that he believed that star quarterback Robert Griffin III was clearly not prepared to play in the Redskins playoff game on Sunday.

“It was painful to watch,” Carney said about Griffin’s knee injury that crippled him during the game.

When asked about his personal opinion about Redskin’s coach Mike Shanahan’s decision to keep Griffin in the game, Carney added, “I’m not a football coach, but it sure seemed like, as remarkable player as he is, he wasn’t in a position to keep playing.”

“I just got myself in trouble,” Carney added before moving on to the next question.
