Aboard Air Force One this morning, White House Press Secretary Jay Carney insisted that Boston fans were not boing the president last night after he joked that

"(A)nyone who knows Boston, knows the Red Sox and anyone who was in that room last night knows that the preponderance of people shouting in response to what the President said about Kevin Youkilis were saying ‘Yoooook and not Booo’ for God’s sake.” Carney insisted.

But the White House transcript (shown above) described the audience reaction as booing.

Update: Jay Carney tried to clarify the issue on Twitter. "Excellent WH stenos not members of Red Sox Nation. To untrained ear "Yoooouk!" and "Boooo!" sound alike. Crowd said both." he wrote to BuzzFeed's Zeke Miller.
