America's iconic Jeep brand, clarifying its plans for production in China, said that it is considering resuming the building of Jeeps in China for Asian sales and not eyeing a total production shift to America's No. 1 economic competitor.

Production has been on hold in China since 2009 when ownership of the company switched to Fiat.

The company said that some news blogs, including Secrets, misinterpreted a story to suggest the firm was considering a production shift to China.

"Let's set the record straight: Jeep has no intention of shifting production of its Jeep models out of North America to China. It's simply reviewing the opportunities to return Jeep output to China for the world's largest auto market. U.S. Jeep assembly lines will continue to stay in operation," said Jeep.
