Lauren Shehadi is starting her second season as co-host with Matt Yallof of the wildly popular show "The Rundown," seen weekdays on MLB Network. The show starts at 2 p.m. and offers fans previews of the night's action from around baseball, live look-ins on any afternoon games that are being played and live interviews from the ballparks with players, coaches and managers.

Shehadi was born and raised in McLean and is a self-professed life-long Redskins fan. She likes the Orioles and has become a Nationals fan. A proud graduate of Langley High School and the University of Florida, she talked with me about her love for sports and her family.

How has your family helped you become a sports fan?

Shehadi » "My first vivid memory of being introduced to sports came at age four. I was sitting on the couch with my dad watching the Redskins and the Broncos playing in Super Bowl XXII. The Redskins won 42-10, and I was hooked. I never missed a Redskins game, watching and, yes, attending some of the games. We went to Baltimore, and I loved watching Cal Ripken and the Orioles. Since 2005, I have become a Nationals fan. They are my home team."

Tell me about "The Rundown."

Shehadi » "We have amazing access to get a guest on short notice because we have a camera in each stadium in Major League Baseball. So we can talk to Bryce Harper about his hand or Joe Maddon can tell us about the lineup changes he has for the Rays game that night. We can take a look at, say, an afternoon game between the Red Sox and the Blue Jays and watch with the viewers how the game plays out. So there is nothing we can't do to get fans updated on everything going on in baseball."

What are your thoughts on the Nats?

Shehadi » "I think, to the surprise of no one after what they did last year, that they are a true World Series contender. Also, as someone from the Washington, I am really happy and encouraged that the city is now a baseball town. Sure, Washington is a Redskins town, but the Nationals have built an ever growing fan base and that is good for everyone."
