Bobby Jindal has it right:

We’ve got to make sure that we are not the party of big business, big banks, big Wall Street bailouts, big corporate loopholes, big anything,” Jindal told POLITICO in a 45-minute telephone interview. “We cannot be, we must not be, the party that simply protects the rich so they get to keep their toys.

I’ve said similar things for years, most recently in my post-election column.

Conservative writer Bill Kristol took this theme so far as to suggest Republicans should put tax hikes for the rich on the table. I think a more fruitful avenue is to target corporate welfare. This is more fruitful because it draws a contrast with pro-corporate-welfare Obama, and reveals the emptiness of his populist rhetoric.

I’ll keep an eye on more free-market populism coming from major Republicans.
